Red Bell Pepper Dressing/ Marinade

Categories Nourishing Food, Recipes
This is a blue bowl filled with Red Bell Pepper Dressing and Marinade. The sauce is adorned with a few fresh basil leaves. The bowl sits on top of the blue and white kitchen towel, with a raw red bell, fresh basil and a wooden spoon to make the image more aesthetically appealing.

Who doesn’t LOVE Red Bell Peppers? They are loaded with antioxidants, packed with Vitamins A & C and seem to be a great source of B6, magnesium, potassium, vitamin E and folate. Did I mention that they taste AMAZING? Even non-veggie lovers can’t resist the sweet crunch of red bell peppers. Honestly, I’m not a…Continue Reading “Red Bell Pepper Dressing/ Marinade” →

Verde BBQ Sauce

Birds Eye View of Verde BBQ in a mason jar and blue and white checkered towel in the background.

Do you know the difference between a tomato and a tomatillo? People often mistake tomatillos for ‘green’ tomatoes but in fact, they deserve a category all of their own. Otherwise known as the Mexican husk tomato, this green, or green-purple fruit, originated in Mexico and was cultivated by the pre-Columbian people of Mesoamericans. It was…Continue Reading “Verde BBQ Sauce” →

Cushaw Squash, Corn & Pepper Soup

Categories Nourishing Food, Recipes
This is a bowl of cushaw, corn and pepper soup sitting on a silver plate, in a blue bowl with a black and white napkin alongside it.

For some reason, our farmers always have a crop of cushaw squash right at the end of July. Cushaw squash has fall flavor reminiscent of butternut or acorn squash but with a touch of mildness. They are rather unique looking things. The skin is easier to peel than a traditional winter squash. Peeling them exposes…Continue Reading “Cushaw Squash, Corn & Pepper Soup” →

Strawberry Beet Salad

Categories Nourishing Food, Recipes, Uncategorized

Do you love beets??? It’s usually a resounding YES -or- an emphatic NO when people weigh in on their love (or, disdain) for beets. For some reason, people have an incredibly emotional reaction to this beautiful root vegetable. Probably more than any other veggie, to be honest. Well, I, for one, LOVE BEETS!!! Red,…Continue Reading “Strawberry Beet Salad” →

January is National Oat Month!

Happy New Year!! January brings such inspiration for me. Not in the ‘I have to create a resolution and stick to it’ kinda way but, in the ‘okay, what has worked in the past year and what has not’ kinda way. I always seem to be reminded of the need to slow down and appreciate…Continue Reading “January is National Oat Month!” →

Butternut Squash & Tomato Soup

Categories Nourishing Food, Recipes, Uncategorized

Did you know??? January is national soup month. (Well, duh, right?) While I LOVE soup, I’m over here on a Ramen tear and I will NOT STOP until I have ‘mastered’ the art of the perfect bowl. I say ‘mastered’ because some ramen chefs dedicate their entire lives to finding the perfect harmony in a…Continue Reading “Butternut Squash & Tomato Soup” →

Butternut Squash Marinara

Categories Recipes, Uncategorized
Butternut Squash Marinara

The first time I ever tried butternut squash was in a jar of marinara years ago. During one of my marathon trips to TJ Maxx, I stumbled upon a jar of sauce that was ‘low in points’ so I decided to give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised by the delicate taste and quickly…Continue Reading “Butternut Squash Marinara” →

Not Your Grandma’s Cucumber Salad

Categories Nourishing Food, Recipes

It’s officially fall. However, Houston did NOT get the memo. With temps still in the 90’s, most of the cold weather crops need nighttime temps to drop we we can usher in the next season’s crop of vegetables. I have been trying to fill the co-op boxes with diversity but we are all yearning for…Continue Reading “Not Your Grandma’s Cucumber Salad” →

Strawberry Ricotta Toast

Categories Recipes, Uncategorized
Strawberry Ricotta Toast

Growing up, my Grandma told me “Fruit is Nature’s candy.” As an adult, I’ve come to learn she is absolutely correct. I am always looking for ways to enhance the flavor of bare fruit by adding a few complimentary tweaks that will make their flavor sing. Sugar-laden dishes are tasty and seem to be the…Continue Reading “Strawberry Ricotta Toast” →

About The Flourishing Times

The Flourishing Times is a health, wellness and green beauty blog inspired by our love of real food, family traditions and the belief that happiness is the very best medicine.

Cypress Family Farm to Kitchen was established 2015 as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) & vegetable co-operative. We partner with local, small farms to purchase fresh vegetables in bulk and portion them into ‘shares’ for members. Each share offers a variety of seasonal vegetables that are grown free of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.

After seeing our success in the Cypress, TX and surrounding communities our sister company, Flourishing Fern, was born a few short months later. We were bringing our members foods to nourish their bodies but were looking for alternatives to slathering our skin with chemical laden products. Flourishing Fern takes a natural approach at living and offers you a glimpse into the importance of self-care. Our methods are tried and true and practiced in the daily lives of owners Jack and Brandi McRill.
